THINGS LEARNED AND SEEN AT
SPRING QUILT MARKET
Mini quilts are huge!
We saw the small-sized (and typically square) creations all over the spring Market show floor. In addition to fabric designers who—rather brilliantly—used groupings of these small and easy-to-construct quilts to display a variety of uses for their fabrics, many pattern designers were also offering these little cuties.
We spotted mini quilts at the booths for Riley Blake designers Sedef Imer of Down Grapevine Lane, Tasha Noel, Carina Gardner, Art Gallery Fabrics designers Maureen Cracknell and Amy Sinibaldi, and Moda designer Camille Roskelley of Thimble Blossoms. We also love the mini quilt pattern collections from Sassafras Lane Designs and Sew Kind of Wonderful.

When all of the lights go out in a large swath of a major metro area,
it’s…well…a little eerie.
You can break Instagram.
Okay, we’re not talking about “breaking the internet” à la a certain overexposed reality star, but as we found out during Quilt Market, too many posts to your account in quick succession (or, as we did, using a reposting app) can get your account temporarily disabled.
Yep. We—Quilt Market—posted too many pics about/from Quilt Market, and were unable to post for the remainder of Quilt Market. Luckily, it was eventually reinstated, and certainly, there were no shortage of #QuiltMarket Instagram pics from other users. Lesson learned.
At every Market, we’re going to see at least a couple of new collections in a largely (and totally classic) black-and-white color scheme.
And no matter how many of them you’ve seen, they never fail to produce striking results. For proof, check out Riley Blake designer Simple Simon and Company’s amazing booth for their new fabric collection, When Skies Are Grey.
Not everyone who could qualify for Media Credentials
knows that it’s an option.
In addition to our standard credentialing process, we also offer members of the media a separate Media Credentialing process for admission to Quilt Market.
How does one qualify? In order to receive Media Credentials, a person must write for a print publication, online publication/website, or blog (the latter of which must be a strictly quilting-, sewing-, crafting-, or industry-related blog, and not one of a personal nature). And said person must be actively covering the show.
Additional information (and an application link) will be available in the fall Quilt Market class catalogue and on our website.
Salt Lake City is one of the friendliest cities!
We’re reminded of that every time we return there for the show. Truly—it’s a city with an outright abundance of nice people.
And finally, fabric designers are loving all things from the farm…
farms, farmer’s markets, farm-fresh produce, the list goes on. We saw farm-themed prints from at least a dozen different manufacturers at Market, each offering totally different interpretations on the theme. But since most won’t make their ways into stores for at least a couple of months, we’re going to save the farm-centric feature for next month’s eInsider. Look for it there!
