COLORFULLY CREATIVE COTTONS

From Riley Blake Designs

For many people, there were few things greater, as a child, than a brand new box of Crayola crayons. Long before we knew of PMS colors and hex codes, we could easily identify “Cerulean Blue,” “Sea Green,” and “Raw Sienna” by sight.

So, the new Crayola fabric collection from Riley Blake is the ideal mix of novelty and nostalgia. In addition to its Crayola Confetti Cottons line of solids, the company is also releasing the Colorfully Creative line, featuring children’s-art-themed designs, as well as alphabet, crayon box, crayon toss, and coordinating stripe and geometric prints…all in, naturally, full Crayola color!

HAND-PRINTING STUDIO BY BETSY OLMSTEAD

From C&T Publishing

This new release from artist and designer Olmstead serves as a “visual guide to printing on almost anything,” glass, wood, metal, and—of course—fabric, included. The 15 projects featured in the book include everything from glass vases and a galvanized planter to a printed coffee table and floral curtains.

Olmstead covers the process (and secrets) of block printing, screen printing, and disperse-dye transfer techniques. Readers can start with any of the 12 ready-to-use patterns included in the book, before adding their own designs and details.

RAZZ-A-DAZZLE

From Hugs ‘n Kisses

This new 13-part Block-of-the-Month project from designer Helen Stubbings features hand embroidery and machine-pieced Dresden Plates. Each embroidery panel uses the new Cosmo Seasons variegated thread and is bordered by Lecien L’s Modern Basics fabric.

The pattern includes iron-on transfers for each embroidery design, color photos, and pre-cut appliqué paper circles, along with templates and instructions. The finished quilt measures approximately 48” x 48.”

MARGARITA

From Crabapple Hill Studio

This new pattern from Crabapple Hill gives new meaning to Happy Hour…celebrating a favorite cocktail in the form of an “intoxicating” mini quilt. The finished version measures 16.5” x 16.5,” and features an ice-cold margarita—created using easy stitching and highlighted with crayon tinting—at its center, surrounded by an adorable patchwork border and striped binding.

For those who prefer a non-alcoholic option, the company also offers Root Beer Float and Lemonade mini-quilt patterns, any of which would make a great summer project.

BOUFFANTS & BROKEN HEARTS

From Robert Kaufman Fabrics

This new collection from its namesake designer, Bouffants and Broken Hearts, is modern, graphic, and what we can only describe as edgy feminine. The collection features stylized lipsticks, mascara, repeating rows of bold red lips, and—of course—some pretty killer bouffants among its prints. Though largely black and white, bright reds, pinks, and gold lend a little luster to the collection.
