FALL QUILT MARKET FABRIC FINDS

It’s been a bit since the close of fall Quilt Market, so we’ve had sufficient time to sort through the various product sheets, business cards, and notes (chicken-scratch, though they be), and pull it all together in an effort to offer you—our valued readers—our take on the notable new fabrics and trends we spied on the Market show floor.

There are the perennial favorites—florals, stripes, birds of every feather—and those will never go out of style. Solid and basic lines are sustaining their popularity, as are collections offering alternate substrates. So, in a lot of ways, there weren’t many big surprises. But, really, who needs surprises when you have pretty fabric?

And designers definitely brought the pretty…and the sweet.

The Sugar Pie collection by Lella Boutique for Moda Fabrics is a happy combination of painterly floral prints, small-print hearts and flowers, and subtle stripes and dots in a totally sweet (but not quite pastel) color palette.

Also from Moda is designer Kate Spain’s latest effort, Early Bird, which does, indeed, feature several bird-themed prints, but also a variety of large- and small-scale floral designs in pretty pinks, yellows, oranges, and aquas.

The Wonderful Things collection by Bonnie Christine for Art Gallery Fabrics is mix of soft-hued, elegant florals and joyful designs like the “Words to Live By Bounty” panel, which positively affirms, “You are capable of wonderful things.”

Art Gallery also introduced four lines of “Fusion” prints—including Ethereal Fusion, Boho Fusion, Joyful Fusion, and Abloom Fusion—featuring a variety of downright gorgeous flower designs.

Among Riley Blake’s newest offerings are a number of collections featuring delightful, delicate florals, including Arbor Blossom by Nadra Ridgewa, Forget Me Not by Tammie Green, and Daisy Days by Keera Job, all of which also include flowered heart and wreath designs.

Other sweet new collections at Riley Blake include Lori Holt’s Sew Cherry 2—which combines florals with (you guessed it!) cherries—and Simple Simon and Company’s Just Add Sugar, with its brightly colored lemon-themed prints.

Patty Sloniger’s latest collection for Michael Miller Fabrics, Bake Shop, really brings the sweet…literally. Bake Shop features dessert-themed prints like “Sweet Cakes,” “Tic Tac Donuts,” “Petit Fours,” and “Les Macarons” in pinks, teals, and yellow-golds.

If you’re a fan of S.E. Hinton’s The Outsiders (or the subsequent film), you may—like us—appreciate Aneela Hoey’s newest collection for Cloud9 Fabrics as much for its name as its precious designs. In addition to its “Ponies” prints. Stay Gold also includes diminutive floral prints in pinks and yellows, and coordinating plaids.

We love seeing designers do something new and different with ubiquitous design motifs…botanicals, for instance. As is the case with Heather Jones’ newest collection for Robert Kaufman, Conservatory.

In addition to brightly hued large-leaved botanical prints, the collection also includes a repeating hashmark design and a coordinating text print featuring the scientific names of a variety of house plants.

The new Unusual Garden collection from In the Beginning Fabrics’ Jason Yenter offers layered, tropical-inspired florals and botanicals in two vivid color palettes—all of which pop against a pure black background.

Succulents have also been a popular motif the last couple of years, but none quite like the designs in the Oasis collection from Flaurie and Finch for RJR Fabrics. In the design duo’s signature nature-inspired style, Oasis features succulent designs ranging from realistic illustrations to abstracted prints.
