MARCH

WHAT’S TRENDING: HELLO, SPRING!

The official first day of spring is March 20…and after the winter that much of the country has experienced, we think we’re safe in saying it will be a welcome sight! Even if it will still be a while before “your neck of the woods” (cue Al Roker chuckle) starts to see signs of spring, we see no reason that should stop you from celebrating the upcoming season.

So, for this edition of “What’s Trending,” we’re shining a little sunlight on new, new-ish, and notable fabric collections that will put you in the mood for spring.

MAE FLOWERS from Penny Rose Fabrics/
Riley Blake Designs

The newest collection from designer Lindsay Wilkes (The Cottage Mama) epitomizes all things spring. The collection’s main print offers a cheerful take on April showers in the form of rain-jacket-clad figures with umbrellas and bouquets of flowers. Other prints in the collection feature a variety of floral designs, including Border, Trellis, and Bouquet prints. And the collection’s pink, sky blue, and spring green color palette is perfectly on season.

BUNNIES & BLOSSOMS
from Penny Rose Fabrics/Riley Blake Designs

Another recent collection from Penny Rose, Bunnies & Blossoms by designer Lauren Nash features bunny-centric designs that would work as well for a child’s quilt as they would an Easter project. The collection’s prints include dancing bunnies and birds, playful bunnies in rain showers, and a sweet mix of flower and strawberry designs.

BUNNY’S GARDEN from Michael Miller Fabrics

Bunnies (albeit, slightly more industrious ones) also make an appearance in this new collection from Michael Miller Fabrics. The collection’s main print features bunnies hard at work defying stereotypes and tending to their own garden…rather than eating someone else’s. Other prints include “Hopping Fences,” “Little Nibbles” (rabbit-favorite garden veggies), and “Flower Patch.”

BUNNY TALES from Studio E Fabrics

This new collection is actually a reprint of the popular Bunny Tales cotton collection from designer Lucie Crovatto—this edition printed on two-ply flannel. The 30-inch-wide panel print can be used to make a quick baby quilt as is (without adding borders). Other pastel-hued Bunny Tales prints include dots, butterflies, carrots (naturally), and charming scenes of bunnies at play.

BUTTERFLY DANCE from Windham Fabrics

Venturing away from bunny territory, we’re particularly smitten with this boldly colored collection from designer Sally Kelly. Inspired by “a lazy, hazy summer day lying amongst the grasses of a country meadow in the English countryside” (okay, it’s not spring, but close enough!), Butterfly Dance features gorgeously hued butterflies, dense florals, dragonflies, organic dots, and animal-print-inspired designs.

FRESH PICKED from Clothworks

Few things say “spring” quite like colorful flowers, and this new collection from designer Sue Zipkin delivers that in abundance. The Fresh Picked panel print features rows of orange, pink, and purple flowers in vases. Coordinating prints include large-scale watercolor florals, a flower-on-text design, and petite flower prints. Even the collection’s blender fabrics have a subtle tone-on-tone floral design.

FARM FRESH from 3 Wishes Fabric/
Fabric Editions

A recent issue from the 3 Wishes Fabric brand, Farm Fresh offers a truly original take on a somewhat ubiquitous design motif. For the fabric’s main print, illustrator/designer Flora Waycott combines hand-drawn “fresh” flowers with vintage-inspired floral pitchers and vases, creating a design that borders on visual illusion. Another of the collection’s prints includes “plates” featuring flowers, garden produce, and birds. Farm Fresh also includes additional flower, produce, and rooster designs.

GATHER from Cloud9 Fabrics

This new collection from illustrator/designer Juliet Meeks was inspired “by a day spent handpicking wildflowers, daydreaming in early afternoon sun, and lolling in breezy grasses.” Gather offers an eclectic mix of sweet-and-simple floral prints including “Tulip Patch,” “Sweetbriar,” “Petite Buds,” “Sunshower,” and “Milkflower.”  The “Daydream” and “Midnight Garden” designs feature a mixture of flowers against white and black backgrounds, respectively.

WINDOW GARDEN from Camelot Fabrics

The latest collection from designer Heather Rosas, Window Garden might just inspire you to take up gardening this spring…at least on a small scale! The fun collection features potted plants (including on-trend cacti and succulents) in several prints, including a panel, plus watering cans, garden insects, and small animals. And Window Garden’s color scheme—vibrant lime, soft pink, rich blue, and cream—is perfectly on par with spring.
